What you will taste
Mâcon-Loché is one of Burgundy's smallest appellations, just 25 hectares near the Saône river in the sunny south of the region. Jean-Christophe Perraud, a fourth generation winegrower, ferments this Chardonnay with wild yeasts in large oak barrels and lets it rest there for a year. The result tastes of ripe peach and apricot with a gentle touch of vanilla, round yet fresh.

«This is the insider's white Burgundy: the vines sit next door to Pouilly-Fuissé, but the label keeps the price gentle. The barrel work is generous for the appellation, a third new oak, so expect a creamier and rounder glass than most Mâcon. Serve it cool, not icy, and it opens up beautifully within minutes.»
