Rhône Valley, France · Pierre Gonon · Syrah
The cult Saint-Joseph everyone tries to buy: hand-farmed Syrah, floral, peppery and irresistibly drinkable.
Delivered in ~30 minutes, anywhere in Monaco
The Gonon brothers farm their steep terraces by hand and by horse, make wine the way their father did, and sell out every vintage before it lands. Their Saint-Joseph is Syrah in its most charming form: blackberry and violet, white pepper and herbs, medium-bodied and alive. The 2023 is young, juicy and dangerously easy to pour again.
The sommelier’s note
«Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with half an hour of air. Honest food, good company: that is the whole recipe.»
From the first pour to the last glass — follow it through the evening.
On arrival
Open, pour a splash, and let the bottle breathe while the table fills.
20 min · First pour
Blackberry and violet leap out first: Syrah with a smile.
40 min · The opening
The savoury side arrives: white pepper, thyme, a stony echo.
