What you will taste
Lafite has been shorthand for great wine since Versailles, where it was the favourite of courts and kings. Its secret is proportion: nothing too loud, everything exact. The 2019 is textbook: cassis and cedar, a violet lift, graphite coolness, tannins measured to the millimetre. Power is common in Pauillac; this kind of poise is not.
