Italy, Europe · Tenuta San Guido · Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
The wine that invented the Super Tuscan legend, from a celebrated warm vintage: powerful, plush and long.
Delivered in ~30 minutes, anywhere in Monaco
Sassicaia began as a family experiment: Bordeaux grapes planted on stony Tuscan soil that everyone said was wrong for wine. It became the first wine of its kind in Italy and gave birth to the whole Super Tuscan movement. The 2015 comes from a warm, generous year: ripe cassis, cedar and violet, with velvet texture and tannins that promise decades. A landmark bottle in a landmark vintage.
The sommelier’s note
«Decant a full hour before dinner, it truly needs it. Serve at 17 degrees, slightly cooler than the room, and let the last glass show how far it has come.»
From the first pour to the last glass — follow it through the evening.
On arrival
Pour it into a decanter as soon as it arrives. An hour of air turns power into velvet.
30 min · First pour
Cassis and cedar arrive first, with tannins still standing at attention. Good with the opening bites.
60 min · The opening
The texture loosens into velvet and violet and tobacco join the fruit. Time for the main course.
90 min · Last glass
Fully open now, long and calm. This is the glass you will remember tomorrow.
